ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE AND DEMENTIA CARE SEMINAR DETAILS!
WHAT YOU LEARN: This class is helpful to anyone interested in learning more about this disease. Modules include Treatment, Communication, Feelings, Depression, Repetitive Behavior, Paranoia, Hallucinations, Wandering, Hoarding, Aggressive Behaviors, Catastrophic Reactions, Intimacy and Sex, Personal Care, Pain, Nutrition, Activities, Environment, and Staff and Family Support.
It is a required course for frontline healthcare professionals (caregivers, activity directors, health care employees and first responders) seeking certification as a Certified Dementia Practitioner through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (nccdp.org). This National Council is one of only 2 organizations approved to do this certification. This training will prepare a healthcare professional for qualification to the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners as a Certified Practitioner candidate. Starting June 2, 2019 the State of Illinois Administrative Code 245 or 280 under title 77 requires Alzheimer’s Supervisors to be certified. There are now 16 states requiring this for Alzheimer’s supervisors.
For non-professionals caring for a loved one, this training helps participants learn how to care for people with this progressive disease that affects memory, thinking, and behavior. It will increase the patient’s quality of life by your learning techniques to prevent or reduce difficult care situations, until a cure is found. Alzheimer’s disease affects 50% of those over 80 years old. This class is helpful to anyone interested in learning more about this disease.
